Spanish Spoons Question

Since the macks seem to be around I'm thinking of fixing up a couple of trolling rods with spoons to get their attention.

Anybody got preferences on the type/size of spoons or other mack rigs that are proven?

Reports have indicated 7' is a good place to find them - is this right or are they like anything else - you'll find 'em where they are?

Clarks spoons, medium to small

Mackeral tree is good too

Bubble rig and with a straw rig is good for casting, that's what the pier rats throw over here

I think I might troll some Satdy

I would defintely suggest using the Clarkespoon Mackeral Tree. I used one for the first time on Sunday and was amazed. The Spaniards were hitting it before we could get it where we wanted behind the boat trolling!

I threw a spoon w/ no results while the rookies on board wore out the macs w/ believe it or not, a pearl colerd GULP 4 crying out loud! so, I started throwin it and joind the party.

It's like JT said, "Anything will eat a GULP!", but I do prefer a meduim Clarkspoon.

I trolled an X-Rap on Sunday and caught 4 at Bottoms

and lost another four at the boat "trying to net em"

Spanish can be finicky at times. But the best lure I have ever used (and cheapest) is the realimage spoon sold by cabelas in 1/2 and 1 ounce. color that matches glass minnows the best were blue and silver. Works better than clark's IMHO. Gulp is to costly and fragile to use.

I caught mine in 6 to 9 foot of water, next to a flats area

It works best to tip your spoon with a GULP jerk shad 5".

If they are feeding it don't matter what you throw at them, as long as it has a hook. One of the guys I was with Sunday on Dog Island Reef was catching them on a jig with the tail missing, then the rest of the grub came off and he caught them on the yellow jig head without a softbait. If it is moving, they will hit it.

pretty much hit the nail on the head... but i prefer capt. action bananas over clarks in #2 or 3 for inshore flats trolling (there is another type that seems to outperform everything but you can only sometimes find them on Ebay)
