Aucillia Saturday 3/31/07 (Photos added)

Post by mjsigns »

It was 5:30am Saturday morning when Bryan and I hit the road to go fishing. Bryan is my cousin on my wife's side of the family. Bryan had brought the whole family down from Colquit, GA for the weekend. It was "our" annual fishing trip to Florida, so it didn’t’ matter when the tide was coming in or out, the weather didn’t make any difference, we were going fishing and that was that.

With the truck half submerged and the trailer about to slip off the end of the ramp, I had to get out on the trailer and physically shove the boat off the trailer. One of the on-lookers said it was a negative low tide, dropping and getting lower by the minute. I kept my words to myself, my feet were already soaked and it was not even 8:00am. :smt012

Once the motor cranked we were on our way. I followed my tracks from the trip last week with Troutinator. I had cleared the Island and noticed the water was unusually shallow so I came off plane and seconds later heard the skegg thump a couple rocks. :o :o :o I had never experienced rocks that close to the mouth of the river, but I had read a few horrifying posts about them, and now I have touched them.

After we cleared the mouth of the river we had to go all the way out to the piling before turning west toward the lighthouse. The water temp was 72.5 degrees and the wind was whipping out of the east around 12 knots. I ran to the usual spots and we boated about 5 keeper trout before lunch. About that time the wind picked up to 17-19 knots and it became too difficult to fish. I told Bryan we had to get out of this wind so we headed back east toward the Aucillia to one of my secret spots. It was about a 3 mile ride through 2’s and an occasional 3’ and everything in the boat got soaked. When we finally got out of the wind, I put the anchor down and we fished. Bryan thought it was a bad idea until he pulled a 22â€

Sounds like a good day of fishing to me. The rest of the STUFF fades pretty quickly, especially after you catch fish. I'm sure your friend appreciates the effort.

Kind of getting used to it... long as I'm going less than 5mph it's kind of ok.. :-D Bryan simply loves to fish, and he had a day to remember for sure.
