Aucilla, man, what a day.4-13-07

Post by DixieReb »

Made it back to salt water again, didn't put in til 10:30 due early low tide. Wind started blowing right off, A little choppy but not too bad. Fished toward Econfina around some bars, got 2 small trout and a cat, so moved to another spot and on the end of the bar, reds and blues were everywhere. :o Got 3 keeper reds to 22'', 3 short reds and 5 of the biggest blues I have seen in a long time. A big blue on topwater is awesome!! :-D One of them had all 3 trebles of my redfin and crunched down so hard I cut the lure off , iced him and got my lure on the cleaning table. Tide was high at 12:30, water got still and we wanted some trout so went hunting. Ran over to the rock garden and got 2 big trout to 20'' on greenback redfins. Had to leave the spot due falling tide and lotsa mines under boat so went back toward Aucilla in 4-5 ft. water and found some more trout. They seemed to like white gulp fished straight and new penney under a CT rig. Don't know why, that's just how it worked out today. And the closer in we came the smaller the fish. Had quite a few shorts, some to 14.75''. Ended up with 6 big trout, 4 big blues, and 3 reds. Dad had to be back in Moultrie before seven pm so we quit at 4 pm. The wind really picked up about then and tide falling fast so it was time to go anyway. Tired now but can't wait il next time. :smt004

Yeah it was nice today. I caught 9-10 reds, 1 trout, and lost another GOOD trout right at the boat.
I even caught a rock bass and while removing my grub I noticed he had one that he had swallowed so I removed it too. It was a chartruse jig head with a fresh Gulp still on it. After I lost the grub I was fishing I slid that "new" Gulp on and caught some two more fish. Talk about recycling :-D :-D .
Yall done good DixieReb   . Wish I could have gotten there earlier, I was only there for a couple hours. It was slick when I got there, but the wind picked up pretty good around 3:00 or so.

I forgot to mention the big fish I hung that tried to spool me, don't know what he was but guessing a cobia. A cobe was stalking Dad's topwater plug and we could see him. I threw behind him and got the hookup. I couldn't turn the fish or anything, he just ran like a train. Too much spool pressure finally broke him off. Should have followed him but I didn't. oh, well.
