We live in a coutry that is more free than any that I have ever traveled too, or lived in. Unfortunately some take advantage of that and deprive us of our safety, security, and shelter from harms way. One of my co-workers has a daughter going to school there and she lived down the hall in the dorm of the first incident. She is fine and stayed at a friends house in town after they closed off the dorm last night.

Well Said.
I also noticed a story on the news today that is interesting.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070417/wl_ ... epeat_dc_3
I especially noticed the line that said:
"Japan has very strict gun control laws and firearms are mostly in the hands of "yakuza" gangsters or hunters"
Remember when they start yelling (and they will)"Ban Guns" that phrase:
"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"
I can guarantee you if one of those teachers had had a gun in their possession, they could have stopped it much sooner.
You will NEVER be able to stop violent criminals by taking away the citizens right to defend themselves.

The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.

Virginia Tech Tragedy
Availabilty of guns is not a problem. Breakdown in society is a problem. Guns have always been available. My friends and I carried them to school because we went hunting before and after school. I don't remember anybody in my school ever being threatend with a gun or a pocket knife.

I noticed an article this morning about how all of our fine presidental canidates have taken this tragedy and wrapped themselves in it. Its sad that our leaders sometimes seem to be no more than ambulance chasers. That's just my opinion.
I agrre whole heartedly:
"I think that people who want to take this within 24 hours of the event and make it their political hobby horse to ride ... I've got nothing but loathing for them," Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine said. "To those who want to try to make this into some little crusade, I say take that elsewhere."
The great majority, it seems, no longer teach kids to be respectful and the moral values that our parents taught us. That's the problem, not easy access to guns, like so many others I remember taking guns to school for after schools skeet shoots or because we didn't have to time to take them home after a morning of hunting. Nobody bothered you about it, everbody did it and it was okay becasue we knew how and when to use them. That wasn't ten years ago. I kept a pocket knife all the time, everbody did and I don't recall any stabbings. I guess I am part of the last generation that were taught how to act and the consequences of acting any other way. I don't know what happened to our society, but we need to start right now and fix it. Teach our kids right from wrong and that life isn't fair but that's life, deal with it. I say all of this a 26 year old that was taught this things. Parents need to raise their kids at home and let the teachers teach math and reading not the family values and morals it takes to be human. We need respect for one another and thiongs like this won;t stop until we do.
Again this is only my opinion.
