Did the Wind Blow..Aucilla 20Apr07

Post by Fisherman989 »

Got down to Aucilla River about 0715 this morning. Knew there would be plenty of water with low tide at about 10 AM..and it was a + 1.6. There was and we had no trouble launching. Headed down the river...thru the cut...down the ditch...and after a bumpy ride we wound up in the rock garden. Up and down we went....and zip was our luck. Over to one of the bars we had real good luck last Friday....up and down most of the way. Zip was our luck there...not a bite....and the wind was abuilding...out of the north. Just a few whitecaps were showing. Our boat wasn't too big and it looked like a busted day due to the wind.. We beat our way over toward one of the bars toward Econfina.Got very wet too. Zip around the bar....so we started drifting with the wind streight out to sea. We didn't go 200 yards....drifting...when bingo...on a streight gulp....the first fish of the day comes into the boat....a trout....16 in..We went on to catch 8 trout,1 mackrel, 3 hard fighting sail cats mostly on streight jigs with gulp grubs....before the wind drove us off the pond.about 1400 hrs. Didn't have a temp reading so don't know the water temp. It was good color though. Sailcats were in the 3-5 lb class....and pulled like a Missouri Mule. :-?
Had poor luck on CT with gulp...live pinfish....Catch 2000. :)
