Man what a day. The wife set her alarm for 5:00a.m. to go fishing Sat. It's a shame when your wife is the one to get the ball rolling for an excursion. Anyway, I rolled out of bed and got to the Keaton ramp between 6:30 and 7:00. I was a little amazed that there were not that many boats there yet, we were able to scoot past a Georgia fella that was getting his ice chests, fishing poles, and other necessities neatly arranged in his boat for his fishing trip. I asked if he would be putting in shortly and he kindly allowed me to go. Thanks.

We head down the canal and did not feel much wind. Let me tell you, when we got out into the channal, we had some wind. Blowing straight out of the north, and cold. I headed up past Spring Warrior a bit and got into some of that darker water. Started in about 3.5 foot and let the wind take me out to 6. Water temp. that morning was 64.5. 5 foot of water seemed to be the magic number. I immediatly had three strikes and cut off. :smt013 I was happy we found some fish, but relunctantly I put some wire on. We got into some blues, and then about 30 foot off my bow something big and silver rolled and struck at my little new penny Gulp!. It was either a huge spanish or a small king. I would have liked it if he would have actually hit it. After he missed a good size, not the same one, follwed it up to the boat but missed it and sped off. We caught a bunch of short trout and Austin, my 5 y.o. started chucking a chartreuse curly tailed grup and caught a big 16.5" rock bass. It took drag on his little Zebco and lit up his face. We caught three nice keeper trout to throw in the cooler along with the bass. I love fishing.

Around 11:30 the wind slacked off real good and we decided we might want to try offshore a little bit. We had an 50th Year Wedding Anniversary party to attend but thought we could get an hour or two over some spots closer in. We got out into 40' of water and immediatly started bringing in rock bass. After catching quite a few on squid and a remora we decided to move to another spot I had close by. Pink mouths. We put some more fish in the cooler and then my rod doubled over!!! The fight was on but I knew by the fight it wasn't to be my grouper. I brought up a good sized shark. That of course thrilled my son, because what's cooler than a shark? About 3:00 we had to head back to shore. Austin passed out and didn't wake up until we put him in the truck. I passed out shortly after the party and washing my boat down. Cleaning the fish had to wait till morning. What a great day. Water temp that afternoon got up to about 69 degrees. I'll be stinkin' up some grease tonight.
If we are not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?

Nothing like seeing the faces of your children light up when they catch a fish, good job and keep it goin
You’ve reached middle age when all you exercise is caution.
