4/21 St. Joe Bay

What a gorgeous day on the water. Didn't get down here until 2AM this morning, so we didn't get on the water until a little after 10. Wind was kicking, but not too bad. Bite was slow. Only caught a couple trout and they were all short. My bud and I fished pretty hard and ended up with 5 spainish and one flounder in the box. Caught a couple of blues and catfish that we released for another day. Went to the Indian Pass Raw Bar for dinner. They were OUT of oysters! But we pigged out on shrimp and crab.

Everything worked on the boat except for the danged aerator. I am beginning to think James Dean is incapable of fixing that one.

Another unusual thing...we were drifting just before taking out and suddenly we had about 100 brown sting rays playing all around the boat. Gliding around, curling their wing tips so that they stuck out of the water or playing in the sand at the bottom. That is the most I've ever seen together inshore like that.

With that many stingrays there should have been a few cobia or redfish following.

I wondered the same thing about the cobes, but didn't see any.

Another unusual thing...we were drifting just before taking out and suddenly we had about 100 brown sting rays playing all around the boat. Gliding around, curling their wing tips so that they stuck out of the water or playing in the sand at the bottom. That is the most I've ever seen together inshore like that.

I was at the St. Joseph St. Park in a kayak on Thursday and there must have been 50-60 rays all around the boat. Didn't see any cobes and I was looking for them. Did catch a couple of spanish and lost a nice trout at the kayak. Chased a school of reds but couldn't get them to bite. What a beautiful bay.
