Dear Mr. Burton,
Thank you for your recent letter concerning the composting toilet and the boat ramp honor system at Econfina River State Park. We recently received approval to reopen the existing restroom facilities located in the building just north of the boat launch area, which eliminates the need for the composting toilet. In our haste to close the overused composting toilet, we neglected to place signage at the toilet to redirect visitors to the restrooms. We sincerely apologize. I am happy to report that signage has now been placed, and hopefully, will eliminate the problem.
We have noted an increase in boat ramp usage at Econfina River State Park. We have responded by increasing our routine patrol and maintenance, which includes making sure we have enough honor envelopes on hand. Though the honor fee box is secured by internal locks, the side door may be left open. This side door does not allow access to cash deposited in the honor fee box. I have asked the staff to make sure the door on the honor fee box is closed. We will be installing a new honor fee box within the next few weeks.
Again, thank you for your remarks . We value feedback from our park visitors and eagerly work toward resolving all issues. If I may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate contacting me at (850)922-6007.
Sincerely,
Barry Burch, Park Manager
Econfina River State Park
