Alligator Pt. 5/1/07

Post by Jody Campbell is my hero »

Went out of Alligator Pt. fished falling tide with two buddies of mine. About 6-8 ft. of water seemed to be the ticket. Caught about 12 trout in the 18-24 inch slot. Never seen anything quite like that . Every trout we pulled up was long and fat. Biggest one weighed about 3 1/2 pounds. Also caught some macks and the always dreaded ladyfish. Went and fished docks around Marine Lab and caught some undersized redfish. Highlight of the weekend was jumping a tarpon on 10 lb test. Got two jumps before he broke me off. Had most success believe it or not on 5 inch Yozuri Minnow.

What a coincidence! I went to the San Marcos fort after work 5/3/07 and was throwing a Zara Spook from shore on a small Penn combo with 10lb test. I likewise jumped a tarpon, and actually got it to shore. I laid it down too close to the water to measure and photograph, and it flopped back in the water, bit through my line and swam off with my Spook! :smt010 Lesson learned... still shocked that I hooked one from shore that far up the river.

There are some fat trout at AP/LNK this year. Tons of bait.

Great trip.
