Porpoise problem, need suggestions

Post by Redbelly »

I have a tunnel hull 16' aluminum boat. Even trimmed down all the way , in any light chop at all by myself, trying to get on top is a Bronco Billy ride!

I am going to get a 4 blade prop soon, but I sit in the back with rear seat stick steering, and the gas tank and batteries are set up in the back.

Would the 4 blade prop and a turbo plate help this?

Moving weight forward may help, some boats don't take much trim...Prop doesn't help much, if any...it's angle of engine to planing surface and hull design.

Thanks guys. As I gain more time running this boat I agree with something I read that it could be some in the prop. Especially being a tunnell hull. There is an issue of the prop not carrying the load which contributes to the bounce. At least what I read in my net search says, and from running the boat I can see the correlation.

Also loosing some hull bottom right uinder the transom doesn't help.

I have considered moving the batteries up front, but haven't decided where.

This problem is greatly exaggerated when I run the boat by myself. Actually with one of my fatbut buddies riding it doesn't do it.
It just limits me running WOT in chop. But I may need this ability when that thunderboomer is on the way! :o

I will find out if the 4 blade prop will reduce "wash-out" in choppy water.
