Size of boat versus size of boat?

How do you determine what size boat your motor will push? Say a 175 hp.

Gosh, usually it is determined the other way around.. i.e., you want to know what size motor it will take to push your boat.

The equation will take a little bit of work. But to simplify, what kind of boat are you interested in? (center console, pontoon, bowrider, cabin, deep v, etc)

Once you know this you'll be able to starting thinking about weight and length and beam, things like that

I have a 19 foot bowrider and would like to have a 21 foot bowrider. My boat needs alot of work but the motor is in great shape.

like crispy said, decide what boat you want and then look at the rating sticker on the boat for max horsepower. Oh and crispy, I like the way you think. Go Gators!

I bet a decent running 175 hp will make any 21ft bowrider go!
