Econfina 5/5

We had a family fishing trip planned but my son came down w/ a stomach virus Saturday morning. My wife knowing me well told me I needed to find someone else to fish w/ or go by myself b/c she didn't want to be around me sulking all day. After several calls trying to find a last minute partner I struck out by myself. Finally got the boat in the water about 1:30. The fishing was pretty slow most of the afternoon. Caught several short trout before moving in around Rock Island. I fished almost every bar on the islands before I eased up on one covered w/ mullet. After dropping anchor I caught a 17.5" Red on the first cast. I thought it was on. I chunked every thing I had for the next 25 minutes but nothing was happening under the several thousand mullet 20' behind my boat. After cussing b/c I didn't have a snatch hook and I left my mullet cast net at the house since I didn't need it I did manage to snare 18 in my bait net. I threw the net 6-7 times and you couldn't move those mullet. They seemed to feeding on top almost like catfish. I could have caught some more but I needed to go catch my wife something to eat. I finally caught a keeper trout around 5:45. I was off the water by 7:00. Total keepers were 1 Trout 18.5" and 18 mullet. I love some fried mullet but I like em a little more after yesterday for making that poooor fish box look a little better.
