Sounds like the expenses we're split three ways. Evidently, the son was not asked to kick in a share. Always ask up front - "How do you want to split this??" or if you are feeling generous " Do you want me to cover this to help out??" Still, if you got out for under a hundred busks, that was a cheap offshore trip. Did ya'll fish one day or two??

I agree that a two way split is wrong, but IMHO the proper split is 3 ways. The owner of the boat kicked in his share by furnishing the boat.

However, from your post, if I felt that way, the boat owner would have known before I left that further invites would not be accepted :(

I understand your pain. We can usually fish out of Suwannee for two days splitting expenses four ways - usually for about $60-80 bucks per person - depending on how far we run or which boat we use. The Trophy gets one mile per gallon. A trip to the White City Bridge uses 50-60 gallolns of gas depending on sea and number of stops.

Even if we use my boat, I always take a share of the expenses. I would be going regardless, so every bit contributed just lightens the hit on my wallet. The guys I fish with are the same way. Regardless of whose boat we take, we always split expenses evenly by the number of people fishing.

I'm the same way. I always chip in my part weather I'm furnishing the boat, or the ride down. I feel like I would be paying by myself if no one went with me so I should at least be willing to put in what it would cost me by myself. I do make darn sure I don't make any money on a trip with other people.

Everyone I've fished with has always offered me money and can usually attest to the fact that I tend to refuse it.

I always try to iron out the details before a trip. I am like Tom. I don't ever make any money on a trip. I think the people that have fished with me would agree. As a boat owner you have to expect to pay a little more.
