Tough, Tough !

Post by sundown »

Headed out of ST Marks at Daylite yesterday...Wind was tough and hard chop...went east to regular fishing area... Right off the bat picked up a 22" trout on a topwater, two hours later he was still the only one in the boat..Friend and his grandson did catch a few shorts on grubs..
Friend's 8 yo grandson found my pinfish pole and proceeded to load the livewell with them...

About 11 we decided to run to the birdrack and see what the water looked like and drift a pin around some of the buoys to the south if it wasnt too rough..We wound up at Wakulla reef where we had one cobia take a bait and drop it...Water was clear enought to see the bottom and filefish were everywhere...First time I ever saw filefish cept in a picture..

Decided to troll a bit before we started back in. I got the big rods out and we started to pull stretches over an area that procuced good a couple years ago....Wound up with three gags up to 30 inches.. Missed a couple and had a stretch cut off...Went back in and caught one 15" trout..

This morning the weather was better but the fishing was nil...We worked around Gray Mare and caught a few shorts.About 10 it calmed enough to run offshore again so we started back trolling...went over the bottom that we caught the fish on yesterday..they showed on fishfinder but nothing would hit...Circled back toward Dog Ballard and got a hard hit that cut the stretch off... Wondering if it could have been a king..
WE headed back about 12 and came on in..

See they didnt post.....Was going to mention, the water at 25' was grass free....Didn't have a stretch come up but a couple times with any kind of trash on it...Also saw some large schools of bait out there. I imagine the grass will be bad in a month..
