ALLIGATOR HARBOR 5-12-07

Post by devans850 »

Put in at 6:30am and headed to the head of the harbor. Had the kids rigged with CT's and jigs and I was rigged with a silver mullet skitter walk. Got to the bars on a rising tide and saw redfish tailing every where . First cast caught a 22" red and DJ(Dale JR) assisted with the net. Next thing I know Katelin is yelling daddy help and I look back and her rod was bent over double. I kept telling her to hold on and just let him run. After a few minutes she hauled in the biggest catfish I have ever saw. After a few high fives it was back to fishin. I proceeded to catch 4-5 more reds from 20"-23" and then DJ starts yelling daddy I got one. After a brief fight he hauls in a 24" trout  . Some more high fives and we are back at it. After a few more casts I see this big wake coming behind my skitter walk and BAM, the fight was on. It took several minutes to get this pig in, but we finally got him in the boat. After that we decided to run to the East end of Turkey Point Reef. We caught several limits of trout there and called it a day. We ended up keeping only two redfish 24" and 26 1/2" and 10 trout. The trout were caught in 4ft of water on white jerk baits and new penny jigs :-D All in all a great day on the water with the kids and they had a blast. Oh, for the tarpon fisherman, the harbor is full of tarpon right now

Great trip bud, I grew up without a dad so I truly admire men who take every precious minute they can with their kids. We arent promised tomorrow and no matter how many material things we can leave em, the memories will last longer.
