Scalloping at Keaton

Post by Sea Pro »

Hello!!
I am planning a trip tomorrow to Keaton Beach Scalloping. I usually go to St. Marks but hear they are not there. Any advice as to where and how are they in that area?
Thanks!!!

Scallops at Keaton

I haven't been, but my friends have been getting their scallops near the Bird Rack in front of Deckle Beach. They are not in close, so it is better to scallop at low tide. I understood they were in 5-6 feet of water.

Please be careful, I saw one scalloper being life flighted out on Thursday. Not sure what happened to him, but he was under water for several minutes before he was found. Good Luck!

PerryFisherman,
Thanks for the reply and the warning. We made the trip and after waiting out the bad weather we found the scallops right where you mentioned at the Bird Rack. We almost got our limit for 4 but had to get on the road home. We had people waiting on us for dinner and cell phones don't work to well out there. It really got crowded and the weather starting looking good when we had to go about 3:30. They were in 5-6 feet of water. That does make it a little harder and I can see how you could get in trouble if not careful. Thanks Again!!!
