St. Marks 5-12-07

Fished out of St. Marks east of the lighthouse saturday. Headed east about 6am and was in my spot by sun up. Started with topwaters and was catching trout on almost every cast but all were short. Then this 21 inch trout came out of the water and cannonballed my plug. Bout gave me a heart attack. Thats why I love topwaters. Fished the creeks a bit and caught a few redfish, ladyfish and some jacks. Headed back out on the flats in about 10ft and drifted. atching small trout. Then this cobia started circling the boat. So I quickly grab my big rod and threw on a pinfish we had caught earlier. The fight lasted about 20 minutes and I got the ole cobe to the boat once before he took of taking drag again. He was about a long as I am tall and when I tried to turn him again I broke him off at the leader. Oh well one day Ill catch one of those cobes. Great day on the water with a good friend of mine.

I fished topwater Friday and had a few explosions. There's nothing like it. Great trip!
No matter what, it's a good day.
