Me, Ab7bear, and one of his buds headed out of the Aucilla yesterday morning at first light. We got to our first stop around 7:15 and started throwing topwaters. We immediatly started catching fish. We caught (and missed) some nice trout and four redfish. The bite was hot for the first hour and a half and then the tide went slack and the wind stopped blowing. No wind + slack tide = slow fishing. We went over to a rocky area and threw everything in the tackle box, but couldn't find any fish. We moved out to a little deeper water (4-6 ft) and caught a few small trout and a nice Jack, but other than that, the fishing was slow. We came in around noon (just as the tide was starting to move again) and trailered the boat and got some lunch at Ouzt's too. Not the best day, but it sure as hell beat working.
We fished shallow around rocks and brought home 4 trout. 22", 19.5", 19.5", 17". We also caught 2 nice redfish that were 22" and 21".
Just a note, for anyone planning to fish the Aucilla River, you might want to take some bugspray with you or wear long pants. The no-see-ums were hungry. I'll upload the pics later this afternoon.
