Headed down to Econfina on Thursday afternoon and put the boat in the water around 1:30. Not many vehicles in the parking lot so I knew the trout/redfish were out there waiting on me!! Headed west and fished between Aucilla and Econfina in 4-6ft of water. Trout were just dying to come attack my Jerk Shad and right away I put 4 in the boat on the first drift. My partner was snake bit and all he could do was catch trash fish. I sware he was getting bit on every other cast but all he could find was the unwantables!! I just keep ploding along reeling in the occasional 20 inch trout. Ended up with one large fish in the 23/24 range and had our limit by 5:00. Fun was had by all and next we went looking for a redfish who wanted to join our team! Hit a bunch of rocky areas and I hooked two good fish but both got off and did not want to come home with us. Put the boat on the trailer around 7:45 and headed home to Thomasville!! Nobody had to rock me to sleep last night!!!!!!!!

WOW! Sounds like a great afternoon. I gotta learn ta use them jerkshads ,have tried 'em but not done much. I bet the catfish don't bother you as bad using them.

Ok Secret information time!

I like to use PowerPro with CT. To me, mono stretch is an issue when using these corks and staying on top of your bite. It really shines when bites are few and far between and hook set comes fast! I really, really like PP due to its no stretch properties. I do not tie the PP right to the CT. I allways have a 2 or 3 ft piece of 20lb (stiff) mono that is tied to the CT and it usually does not not wrap around the CT wire/swivel. I use flurocarbon leader of 2 to 4 feet as the water is very clear. Usually 15 to 20lbs depending on bite and 1/4 jig heads with a good wide mouth hook. Slow bite, I will go to lighter flurocarbon and smaller jig heads or twitch bait.

Gulp/shrimp/jerk shad
I like bright colors (white or electric chichken) on overcast days and more natural colors (new penny or greenish color) on bright days. If I fish a Jerk shad I like to use a 7ft spinning rod loaded with light PP (10lb). I love the light stuff on a spinning reel as I can feel a fish breath on that lure. I will tie a 12 turn Binimi in the braid. On the end of the doubled line I will use a 10/12 turn No-name knot to attach the Flurocarbon to the braid. Use your favorite knot to attach a 4/0 or 5/0 worm style hook. I like the weighted worm style hooks made by H&H called Flutter Jighead hooks. They weight 1/8 to 1/16 oz and will make the jerk shad jump. I just fish the JS like a twitch bait and hold on! Twitch, Twitch, wait! Twitch, Twitch, wait! Oh, its a big one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
