Talltales and myself got together yesterday afternoon to take advantage of those extreme low tides and pick up a few redfish. Soon as I paddled up on Talltells outside the Greentop Inn, we spotted a Redfish feeding on some bait nearshore. Talltales made the longcast right on top of the Redfsih's back and picked him up by just leaving his jighead with artificial shrimp laying there. He fought it across an outgoing tide in a tight little cut and got him to the Oyster bar he was standing on. I held the camera and shot video with some stupid commentary. The Red measured 26" long. We saw some more feeding going on back in the bay and made a run for it. I left Talltails to hit up another feeding fish and he picked up and lost a big red. I picked up a Big Red about 6 feet from the boat just as i was lifting my 1/16 OZ DOA Red Jighead with a big Gulp Shrimp out of the water. The fight was on. The red was showing me who was boss as he ran around the Kayak and I lifted the Rod over the other rods and reached for the net, i held on as drag just poured off the reel. I starting bringing the might fish in as he would make another dash again, and again. Then as quickly as he hit, he was gone. Nothing, as the lure just fell onto the oyster laden bottom. Thats fishing! I also hooked up with two more Reds on the windward side of the Oyster bars but quickly lost them on the Skitterwalk. I got short little 30 second fights as the lures would dislodged from the side of their hard aged faces. The moral of the story is that big Reds are inshore now. Have fun.
