Not everybody from Georgia has bad etiquette. I try very hard to look out for other smaller boats and I always let out of the throttle within 200 yds of another boat. The law says 100 yds but thats not far enough if your running 50+!!!!rocket wrote:Like my buddy used to tell me..."They ought to put some more water in the Great State of Georgia"..."Why is that?", I ask. could their be a relationship between the "circus" and the "excess"

I went out on Choctawhatchee Bay Monday in my little sailing dinghy to troll up some Spanish. Bad idea.
The fishermen in the flats boats and pontoon party boats don't bother me much, as long as they're on plane I can handle the wakes. It's the 50' sportfishermen on their way across the bay to the pass at Destin that scare me. Those things are plowing a major hole in the ocean, and the drivers are so high above the water that evidently they can't see an 11' dinghy in the channel.
On the other hand, the jet skis cutting across my wake (and trolled lines) sometimes lead to amusing episodes. Generally my tackle is too light to handle the strike, and I have to pretend to be sorry, but it's still fun.
I just missed a 300 pound woman on a two-person ski. When she was thundering towards me, I could hear that music from Star Wars playing in my head-- you know, the opening scene where the enormous battleship passes overhead and the opening credits roll.
I laugh now, but then it was scary.
