Econfina 06/01/07

Post by Chalk »

Tincan said we needed to be at the ramp on tournament day at 5:30...I guess we made a practice run Friday  ...arriving at 5:45...in the dark

Slide the Ghost Rider into the mighty Econfina river for the first time and we commenced to idle out to the 1st bend before I could see enough to run. We headed south, then east and made a turn north  .

We fished in close from Rock Island to half way to Aucilla, picking up some reds here and a trout there...We went out to 7-8 ft and I did that for about 10 minutes then I started getting the shakes and hives  ...If I can't get it done in 4 ft or less, I'd rather not get it done.

Never really found a pattern with the trout, basically caught fish every where we went. Ended up with 8 trout 17.5 to 20" and two reds to 23.5" in the cooler. Caught around 15 +/- trout and the same in reds.

Fish seem to prefer lures that were weedless

Good chatting with Welby, Tod and Birddog on the VHF

Boat ran good, only broke one rod :smt013 and I helped Tincan's self confidence

Only picture taken was of the "mule" that pulled Tincan around the boat

We left just as the rain was coming across Hickory Mound...Loaded the boat and headed to Tallahassee...Stopped at the Pan station got fuel, drinks and ice for the next day...Got to Tincan's and the cell phones started ringing about TS Barry...an hour later I was on the way to Panama City.

Had a blast visiting my old stomping grounds, thanks for tagging along Tincan

That's a hell of a jack ! Good seeing the Ghost Rider in local waters. As much as I wanted to fish the tourny, I'm thankful for the rain. Thanks for the report. 8)

Glad you guys survived another trip together. Glad TC found that nice fork-tailed trout.

Nice trip guys. Glad somebody got out this weekend. Turned out I had to work this weekend, so I would have missed the tourney anyway.

Thanks for the call, Chalk.
