St. George Island
Hey guys, I'm going on my first kayak fishing adventure this weekend at SGI. Should be a hoot as (1) I've never fished the bay before and (2) I've never been in a kayak before. Nothing can help me on the second point (luckily I have a good PFD and no pride), but I'm wondering if ya'll can give me a few pointers on the bay. I can easily drag the yak over to the bay side by West 9th Street and put in (close to our house), but am wondering whether I should put in by the ramp in the park for better access to the bars and grass beds. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. This forum has been very useful as I figure out how to rig the yak. I'll post the report on Monday, hopefully will have something to say. Thanks.

Yes, that is a fine place to put in. If your fishing out of a sit on top, and you feel like some waves may take you over (Unlikely unless real windy and lots of boats) hang a foot over each side of the boat (With no sharks around) and it will help stabilize you. Stay in a comfortable area. Don't lose your paddle, wear a PFD, whistle, and be safe. WEAR your PFD. Most people who die in a kayak, are first timers, with no PFD on. The rest who die, think they are pros, and don't have a PFD on. See the trend. Wear your PFD.
