More prop help

Post by e-lineman »

I was able to toy with several different props to compare and get the right prop for my boat 17' cc quest with a evinrude 88 special. A 13 1/4 x 17 was perfect i tried a 15 alum and could not run wot because my rpms were to high and i just sold a ss 19 pitch that would not allow me to reach my wot rpm range the alum 17 was perfect. Now what to buy, Im looking a the alum vortex for about $130 vs the ss Apollo for about $300. Performance wise how much difference is there between an alum and a ss. I know about the durability just not sure of the difference in performance?

Why do you guys dwell on this WOT thing. Most of the places I fish are idle speed and sometimes/most of the time less.
I have never missed a weigh in time.

I live in GA and spend most of my time in a 30 to 70 ft deep reservoir, I do visit the coast several times a year though not trying to get speed just want my boat to preform at the best rpm range, after reading past posts i get more confused it appears my motor height is off a few inches to low im in the bottom hole so I may need a jack plate, it wont take much trim either begins to porpoise

You'll get better performance out of the SS. IMO I would go with a 17" 3 blade SS. You get alot of flex with Alum

If a 17 aluminum got your RPM right, look at a 15 Stainless.
What was I supposed to do today?

a 19 ss would only let me get up to about 4300 rpms, a 15 alum would only let me use 3/4 throttle, a 17 alum was 5500 just what i needed, hole shot was good. if you think i need a 15 ss you da man ill get a 15, wish i had one to try though. I checked my engine height today the cavitation plate is about an inch above the keel If I could trim the engine up more with out porpoising it could handle more pitch i think. This is a big investment for me $300. If your sure about the 15 ss i'll get it, you'all know more than i do. I usually learn by mistakes.
