Fishing with Sarge and Co.

Post by What a mess »

My old fishing partner came over from Savannah to SJB and was having no luck with the weather and then his boat crapped out when it finally got nice enough to fish.

I had responded to a active duty guys request about guides that was staying at SGI.

While it was not my usual area I was told a place to go and we all met at the ramp ready to give it a try.

To those that gave intel thanks for your support.

Captain Charlie was supposed to fish the Hendersons today but had motor issues and can not.

They were very enjoyable company and quite teachable other than the lesson about the proper use of sun screen, the sun gave the test there and I know Rob is suffering now.

The fishing was slow Josh and I have fished together for years and have a sense of humor.

Here is all the normal who caught what and when.

I was the master of pin fish catfish and lizard fish and a trout or two.

Josh put a red on ice and a trout.

Sarge goes by Brian he did ice at least one trout and for all the the rest it was mister sunburn himself Rob.

I tried the old the new the ct the spoon and the sink it just wasn't as easy as it is some days for an area I have never fished I felt pretty good about it and I will go back.

It was slow when it was good and dead the rest of the time.

Sorry Charlie about your motor troubles thanks for trying to help they're still there a couple more days if anyone can help out please give me a shout I'll hook ya'll up the would appreciate it.

Brian I enjoyed it and hope to do it again soon!

Thanks for the part you play in keeping America land of the free home of the brave.

Glad you got those boys on the water. I remember when I was in if you got a sunburn that was so bad you had limited duty they would Article 15 you for destruction of government property. Catching is way better than fishing.

Rob here.

Hey, that sunburn turned out no where near as bad as originally thought, thank you. Hahaha. On a serious note, I'd like to show my gratitude to Howard for a great time and some great company. Even though the advice
kind of only worked for me (;)) it was awesome and I'd love to do it again sometime. Tell Josh to buy his own damned clothes next time, Howard. Haha.

I thought we were sworn to secrecy about his wife buying his outfit and looking like he participated in an alternative lifestyle.

I said nothing of the sort about his wife buying his outfit, or participating in what some would call a "questionable" alt. lifestyle...I just said he needed to grow up a bit and start taking himself to Kohls/Wal-Mart etc. Ya see, when one takes oneself to the clothing store, one has the freedom to buy whatever one has the money for...I suppose Josh didn't get the memo...Too bad there weren't pictures.

ok, ok ok.....so this is what happens when you let your son get your super secret BBF password! Enough of that.

A HUGE thanks to Howard and Josh for making our trip to the coast a most memorable experience. When I first saw the nice rig Harold was putting in the water, I knew we were in for a great day of fishing. I was thoroughly pleased with the entire day-we fished for a solid 8 hours when Howard finally said we had two choices. I won't go into the details, but we elected to part company there. Once I realized Howard was right about the sunburn on my son (and the soon to be sunburn on ME once his Mom saw it!), it was time to end the trip.

I got to see my son catch his first speck, an experience I won't soon forget. We were continuously either on fish or changing strategies to get onto fish. This was also our first experience with fishing with braid-very interesting, I'll be reading more about it. Unfortunately, it also means both my son and I achieved the dreaded 'wind knot'-or maybe Howard was just being kind and not calling attention to our ineptness. At any rate, the knots were dealt with and the fishing continued-although Howard took an unusually long time unravelling Robs, perhaps in an attempt to let Josh and I catch up!

If you've never had the fun of fishing with these guys, trust me-there will never be a dull moment. It was better than some stand up comedy routines I've seen. On a serious note-you have my very sincere thanks for extending your hospitality to my family and me. Please know that you have a true friend in Huntsville, Alabama!

PS-I'll email our pics to Howard, since I can't find a sticky telling me how to post pics-there are only a couple, but for me-they are priceless!

So Friday AM Josh found the school of reds tailing in SJB right where I said they would be. The twelve year old in the boat banged around and it was over.

They took off for the trout hole and the hot water alarm went off on the motor. Ten cuss words later back to the ramp boat on the trailer and screw it anybody want to buy a used key west he has fixed near about everything and just bought a new trailer I think it has just about broke his spirit it can be bought cheap. Any new boat dealers around he's primed and ready.
