Aucilla Friday 8June07

Post by Fisherman989 »

Went to Aucilla Friday. Arrived about 0730 to a ramp way down of water for high tide to be at 0842. But we launched OK and headed down the river to the stake at the entrence....started fishing. It was zip for us for the first hour but finally I caught my first trout of the day out in front of the river on a new penny gulp...little did I realize it was to be the last trout for the next 3 hours. Went on toward Econfina to some bars and on the ocean side....4-5 feet water...we got into a dukes mixture of critters. I caught 2 sharks on a pin..1 huge (4-5 lb) sail cat...the largest flounder I've caught in 20 years (2-3 lbs)...but no trout. My partner put 4 keeper trout in the box on c/t with white gulp while I was kept busy with the odd ball stuff.
Dixie Rebel was there in another boat...and he hung into a silver king (tarpon) that tail walked 2 or 3 times before he threw the hook. Beautiful.
The bite fizzeled out there...so we headed west toward the rock garden...and little trout headquarters. Must have caught 25 that would go from 10-14 in...but there was some big ones mixed in with the short ones....and another dukes mixture of different kind of fish. I caught 1 shark, l mackrel and the first pampano I've caught in many a year....within 1-2 miles of where I caught the last on 15-20 years ago..
I finished out my limit of trout there....and my partner finally caught his 5th one there. You know that last one is sometimes hard to put in the boat.
Another good day on the flats....but they weren't too flat about 2-3 o'clock....rough...and white capping.
Final tally with two boats was 10 trout and odd stuff in one boat.....and 7 trout and 1 shark in the other. :D
