very good looking fly.

another way to tie those is to leave off the tail and add a strip of bunny fur to the hook. the redfish can't stand it and will crush that thing. It looks perfect the way it is though

That's my fear...alot of work for one redfish to crush..it'll be worth it though

Looks good to me capt. Overnight some to Beacon Hill and I'll put them to the test Sat, Sun, Mon and maybe Tue.

It was the only way I could strip and keep ahead of the boat drift

Barhopr if these don't work for me you can have them...I think they will work though

I didn't have the right silly legs, went to Howell tackle and found some Kingfish dusters that had the right legs

These things are a pita to tie and epoxy finish, but I think they look pretty slick

Spoon crab recipe:
#4 Gamakatsu Shiner hook
Waxed thread color of choice
Krystal flash color of choice
Silly legs
Neck Hackle
5/32 dumbell eye
prismatic tape
optional acrylic paint with green glitter
5 minute epoxy
Spoon pattern came from this site http://www.nwmangum.com/spoonfly/index.html

I cut out the spoon pattern and then rough cut prismatic tape around the pattern. Remove the backing and stick the pattern to the tape and trim. Repeat the process with another piece of tape and the spoon is finished.

I start wrapping thread at the base of the hook (use spoon pattern to measure distance and add a little for the legs and hackle) and wrap to the eye, whip once and wrap back to where you started started.

Double the krystal flash over and over until you have a 1.5 inch piece and tie in.

Tie in one silly leg (doubled over) it should extend past the krystal flash.

Tie in the hackle (at the feather base) and palmer and tie off. Then push the palmered feathers down and back wrap them...this make them fold back towards the hook point.

Tie in the dumbell eyes..check the spoon pattern to make sure you have enough room...adjust accordingly

Tie in the spoon pattern...skinny end towards the dumbell eyes

Wrap thread to the eye

Tie in two silly legs inside the hook at the eye...same length as the other.

Tie in the spoon pattern on top ensuring it's snug to the hook shank.

Wrap good and whip finish.

Optional - paint the tape (both sides) and hook shank with the acrylic paint with green glitter...Allow to dry

Mix up some 5 minute epoxy.

Pull the front legs away from the spoon and grab the hook eye and spread the epoxy on both sides of the spoon...Most should go on the hook shank side

Rotate back and forth for a nice even finish (epoxy dryer would be nice, but I think the legs would be hard to work around)

Finish with hard as nail finger nail polish and go fishing

Those sure purdy. And I'm sure it takes a lot of time and work to make them. Are you sure you want to feed them to a fish?

Once you see the fish, present the fly, watch it eat it...the answer will be yes

How much does one of those spoons weigh? I bet it's gonna hurt when you hit yourself in the back of the head with one of those.
