A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
Taking my son (18 months- I know shoulda done it already talk to his mama) on his first boating excusrsion, want to do a river, not the gulf (got a flats boat), but want to find a place we can get out somewhere and swim, play in the water... any ideas close to Tallahassee????
Another idea: put in downtown Apalach and go upriver to a
sandbar. My daughter and grandgirls love to go up there on
jet ski when they're at St. George.
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
How big of a boat and how many going? The Wacissa makes a great trip in a small boat, but you either have to be sure not to go over the little water control device about 5 miles down or have someone pick you up at Goose Pasture.

Me, him and mama.. 18ft flats boat...
The main thing is the boat's draft. You need to be able to run fairly shallow because of all the weed beds.
I was going to say Wacissa, off of 59 if you had a jack plate or T-n-T. There is a diving board, rope swing, and of course, 'big blue'. The ones near the airboat lodge are nice too. The locals had that spot cleaned out the last time I was there.
After thinking about it a second, I realized that Wacissa is the type of place you want to sneak off from work to 'cause then you got it all to your self. Upper Apalachicola is a little more sparse. Sandy shoals downstream a bit and funky houseboats. Make sure you got him in a pfd. I suspect the 'man' will be out checking things at either place.
