Saint Marks 06/15/07 late post

Post by Sir reel »

Sorry for the delay in posting this but the past weekend was pretty jammed up for me. I was originally scheduled to take one of the Soldiers in the Classic on Friday but as it turned out all were placed and I was released from that need. I had already received the OK to be off on Friday and started calling a couple of folks who had fished with me before but everyone seemed to have a conflict. I called a friend that I go to church with and ask him if he would be interested. What makes this unusual is that Mike use to do some diving until a busted ear drum put an end to that activity. However, he has fished some fresh water but never fished saltwater and has been reluctant to get back on a boat because of the likely hood of getting sea sick from his equilibrium issue. It has been some time since the injury and the possibility of fishing sounded good to him so he took me up on my offer. I picked him up at his house at 5am and we headed to Jerry’s and then Savanna’s for a $2 pancake breakfast. :lick:. We got on the water around 6:45 and I stopped us in front of the lighthouse for a few minutes to see if anything was doing and to give Mike a chance to see how he felt.

The fish were not doing much and Mike was feeling fine so I moved us to a spot west of the birdrack and started a couple of drifts to the north west. We didn’t find any trout so I moved us in to the stake just south of patties island. We set up several drift’s there and brought in a 16 inch trout along with several shorts and some blues. Mike was still feeling pretty good even though there were some pretty good rollers coming in from off shore. I headed out a bit farther and started some drifts east of the white marker looking for some sea bass and any other bottom dwellers that would cooperate.

We were using some cut mullet, squid, and pinfish. Mike brought up a nice 14 inch bass and we stayed busy for a while with shorts and 2 more keepers. We had a visit from 4 sharks that added to the excitement.

Looks like another one hooked, and another buddy to call if you're in need of partner. Good job SR.

It's always a good thing to get a newbie hooked, to share your pain.

Well done, Bud.

That is a chunk. If I am not mistaken that might be a boat record, SR?

If it's not a record for the boat it sure is close. My wife caught one out of Econfina a couple of years ago that was a nice one but looking at the pictures this one may have had it beat.

HEY BUD, Y'ALL DID GOOD, WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN WITH YA. I AM AFRAID THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE AN OPERATION ON MY RIGHT SHOULDER, THAT THING JUST WILL NOT QUIT HURTING. I WENT OVER TO THE POND WITH THE FLY ROD YESTERDAY AND TRIED TO FLING A BUMBLE BEE POPPER, AFTER 3 STRIPS I HAD TO HANG IT UP, THE PAIN WAS JUST TOO MUCH. GLAD YA GOT TO MAKE ANOTHER BELIEVER ON THE SALTWATER.
SEE YA LATER
