St. Joe Bay 06/23/07

Post by Chalk »

Got a kitchen pass and I decided to head to St. Joe for a lil redfish and trout action.

Launched around 6:30 and headed south looking for something to pull on my string. Not much happened for most of the morning...Alot, Alot, Alot of grass in the back and alot of large sharks looking for scallopers

I picked up a red and two trout before lunch...really slow...I headed towards town thinking may be I could find a redfish, I did find one.

Only picture I took...camera is kinda in need of repair/replacement

It was so slow I was thinking of putting it on the trailer...decided to head towards the cape and see if I could sight some reds...went to a place that birddog showed me awhile back...First drift produced one dink trout and I was getting towards the end of the drift...not paying attention  ...my line goes tight...I set the hook and move towards the back of the boat...fish takes drag...I still haven't looked towards the fish...line goes slack :smt010 ...I look in the direction that my line was going to see a spotted log heading back to it's hiding hole...that trout was 25" or better :smt007

I continue this same pattern the rest of the afternoon...on multiple occasions I would hook a trout and have several larger trout following the hooked trout...Ended up with 25 or so trout, 2 reds, handful of ladyfish, a few bluefish and two deceased lizardfish

Good day on the water, caught some fish and nothing broke...can't wait til next time.

Fish were chewing on flat pieces of metal with a hook, soft plastics and crank baits.

Sounds like you covered the bay and caught some nice fish.

Where did all the reds go?

It took 20 some odd miles to just find them, that's alot of traveling in that bay.

I don't know were the reds went...I have a suspicions that they maybe looking for love, being that most of the schools we saw back in the spring and winter were upper slot fish...might of just been me not knowing where they were

Trout were holding eggs...be mindful when you catch a biggun
