Keaton anglers fess up!!!

Post by beatswork »

Hey folks, thought that catchy title would get some attention. I've been fishing north of Keaton in the Spring Warrior area and have not done any scalloping scouting. I had seen some in deeper water 8-9'. I'm taking my parents, wife and kids Sunday and of course they are all expecting me to just put them on them on the first day of the season. Not looking for any hot spots, I know better, but have any of y'all seen any, and at what depth just so I have a frame of reference. I heard, or read, that they are showing up in good numbers at St. Joe's. Who all's going out this Sunday to fight the sharks for some?
If we are not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?

Had dinner at Roy's in Steinhatchee two weeks ago there were three divers there I asked what they were looking for.

They replied they worked for the govt. and were looking for scallops and that psj and the areas they had checked there that day were far better than last year.

I have never scalloped and most likely won't start this year I do like to eat them. :lick:
Yesterday it was taboo today it is normal what the heck will they be doing tomorrow?

Everytime I get in the water this time of year I hear the theme music from Jaws. I have also caught more sharks and seen more this year than in years past. Kinda funny seeings how the scientists keep saying shark stocks are being quickly reduced. If you guys don't get a scallop report by Monday night, you know I've become

I saw the LARGEST black tip ever near Panacea Sunday morning. He was feeding on something, had his head down and his tail flopping back and forth in the air. Just his tail was close to four feet long. :o

Heres the scallop report from McGriff posted on the Keaton marina website:

"SCALLOP PRE-REPORT!

Well I took my annual, ride-in-the-boat-on-a-dead-slick-day, survey for scallops in clear water close (250-350yds) to the hill, isle, rack and here is how it went. Note: this survey is nowhere near scientific, just me and another person looking down in he water as the boat travels along in a straight line for five( or ten) minutes and we count any scallops we see on our side of the boat. It is consistent..if not a starting place... for folks to begin, or not to begin, looking?

The next day, we got in the water and found many more scallops out in 5-6 feet of water on approximately the same tide Falling with 1.8 ft left? I was around the south (fish creek) bird rack area when we picked up 15 scallops in under 3 minutes( letting the boat drift) in order to make some pictures.

depth minutes run scallops seen speed(knots) where(location)
2.4 ft. five 11 3.5 k Cedar isle
2.8 five 8 3.6k Sponge point
2.1 ten 5 3.4 k Hagens cove
3.7 five 0 3.7 k piney point
3.2 five 4 3.1 s. end of Grassy Isle
2.7ft five 3 3.2 k Grassy Rack

Good Luck be careful and remember to drive slower than usual as many, many, many fools and folks are in the water. For safetysake, keep one person, on board, to watch the kids in the water?

and Remember it's THE LAW to FLY YOUR DIVE FLAG!

also...Keep your eye and ears open to watch and listen out for Thunderstorms!"
