LANARK SCALLOPS

Post by 3RD CHANCE »

WENT TO LANARK FOR SCALLOPS JULY 4.

WATER VERY CLOUDY

VERY FEW SCALLOPS, MOST THAT WE DID FIND WERE LARGE, INCICATING THAT THEY WERE PROBABLY LEFT OVERS FROM LAST YEAR.

TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER PARTIES THAT WERE HAVING THE SAME RESULTS

ANY REPORTS FROM ST MARKS OR AUCILLA?

The only good reports that I have seen are coming from the Saint Joe/Cape San Blas area. Almost all reports from Lanark to the Econfina have been poor visibility and very few Scallops :(

we were at shell point for the 4th. no scallops off live oak island where most people have luck. water was very dark. went over towards panacea to some sandy bottom patches in 6 to 7 feet of water and saw no scallops. talked to some people that went over to st marks. they had the same luck.

I jumped in at Lanark for a few minutes on the 4th and didn't see the first scallop. Sounds like they are few and far between and the murky water didn't help any. Just FYI, a lady here at work went to Keaton Beach and limited out in a couple of hours.

I hear there are lots of scallops at Keaton Beach. I've never been there but one of my buddies just came back from a weekend there.

I was down at Keaton a few weekends ago with ChuggBug and there were a decent amount of scallops out on the flats. I wouldn't say they were stacked up, but there were enough to notice. They also had a swimming advisory because of high bacteria levels, though.

they have had that advisory for the last 2 or 3 years, i was told not to go near the beach. (who would want to?) we have always scalloped down towards piney point or up towards Dekle beach and have never had a problem.

if the week gets better around here, i am going to go there saturday.

Had a friend went to Keaton last Sunday. He limited out on Scallops. Searched high and low and finally went back in front of Dekle Beach where the other 200 boats were parked to find them. Water is still dark South of Keaton on the surface, but clears up enough to see them close to the bottom. I'm planning to be there this weekend. Not scalloping though. I'll be fishing. Would rather buy mine, than hassling with gathering and cleaning them.

we went down 2 weeks ago and had pretty good success as the tide went out. everyone was in front of dekle. the largest quanities of scallops we found were west of the dekle bird rack, but depending on high tide it is 8 - 12 feet deep. at low tide it was about 6 feet.

Took me 2 hours to pick up a gallon out of Lanark Sunday morning. Hard work for a few appetizers.
