Possible GPS Problem

Post by Charles »

Anybody else been having trouble with their GPS not getting satellite reception? Had to wait a while this afternoon for it to pick up enough satellites, but the main problem, that I have noticed, is between 5 and 6 in the morning.

Thanks Capt. Ron. I was afraid somebody was going to say something like that.

It's an over 5 year old Garmin GPSMap 76, that I can't seem to find the book for. Just took it out in the yard and it seems to pick up satellites much faster if I hold it vertically rather than horizontally. I remember the book saying something about that and the way the internal antenna is arranged, but what it's doing now is a recent development.

It's old enough and been banged around all over the world, maybe I should just send it back to Garmin and let them look at it. Hate to be without it, though, I use it at least three days a week.

Charles, they turned my 76 around in a week. Their service is pretty good. And when you get it back, it'll look and work like new.
What was I supposed to do today?

Actually I had some problems this past weekend with mine picking up satellites. I powered her down and repowered and she would pick up fine. I run a Chart192C. I wondered if the satellites were out of whack or something???
