Garmin GPS question

Post by BAD BEHAVIOR »

My GPS is less than a year old and the screen is really hard to see, even under the T-Top. I cant figure out if the film on the screen is messed up or there is something actually wrong with the screen. It kind of looks like its got water spots all over it and I can see it much better with my polarized glasses off. Any suggestions????

Dont wear your glasses, no really, clean it with some CLR to get spots off
You’ve reached middle age when all you exercise is caution.

I think the same thing happened to FishMasterson's Garmin, and he sent it back for repair.

Will that CLR eat that film off?? The manual says not to put anything more than soapy water not even a wax. Have you used CLR and where do you get it??

It does seem pretty harsh, but if you want to try it you can get CLR at any Home Depot or Lowes (stands for CalciumLimeRust).

Garmin or GPS will fix that for you. Just call them and get a RA #

That happened to my screens and I sent the GPS back to Garmin who fixed the issue pretty quickly. After that I started using screen protectors.

Always remove from the boat before hosing it down and I clean the unit screens with a cloth for eyeglass cleaning and some lense cleaning solution from the eye doctor's office.

is it internal or external? If internal, tap the power button twice and the color should light up. Mine used to do that in black/white mode but went away in color mode. Hope that helps.....

I second the screen protectors. Go to any phone store that sales Treo phones and you can buy the stick on protectors. Mines been on for about a year and no scratches and no glare.

I think I got a few left over. PM me your address and I'll mail you some. depending on how big the screen is it may take two to cover.
