No Cobia and other Observations?
It's been a strange Spring & early summer and I was wondering what else anyone has seen, or not seen that we expect to be here now. I caught a "giant" spot tail pinfish within a 100 yards of shore last week. I also found a species of crab that I've never seen nearshore, only offshore (Calappa, 1 adult and 1 juv.). Weird stuff. I'm guessing salinity. There is a very strong recruitment of gags out there in 2 size classes (~2cm and about 8cm). I've never seen those numbers before. I can't say I've seen the number of sharks that other's are reporting but that's another curiosity.
Any other stuff to report?

Calappa Crab- I had to google that one...

Reminds me a little of a Leopard Crab- we used to catch a ton of those off Mexico Beach

No cobia? I've seen/caught more in the past two weeks than ever before. We've had five in the boat in the past two weekends; only one keeper...
Thanks for the other insight.

In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.
Thanks. I figured somebody had seen some but hadn't heard anything at all recently.SHOWBOAT wrote:No cobia? I've seen/caught more in the past two weeks than ever before. We've had five in the boat in the past two weekends; only one keeper...
