Tarpon in the surf...

Post by bman »

The Brother in Law and I took the yaks out to the sand bar off mexico beach...
The hope was to catch a pomp or Sand Trout...
I was catching lady fish one after another on sand fleas.
He was not getting many bites- caught a catfish and lost a few others.

All of a sudden a +6 tarpon hits his sand flea :o on a fishfinder rig :o- 15LB test :o on a small spinning rig. :o He jumped twice and then spooled him.

We saw several others rolling right at the sandbar.
We were in sight of Toucans.
It was amazing to be in the Yak with a fish almost the same size jumping 50 feet from you.

I suppose that was the rum drinks as well , you telling me the ladyfish took all his line and looked like a tarpon? :-D

Remember the story of the boy that cried wolf we have already seen your redfish and pompano pictures.

Just build the sand castle the shape of a coffin and call Mudducker in the morning.:hammer:

Such fish tales you boys should be ashamed of yourselves stirring up the testosterone of these poor people with fantasies of Tarpon in a Kayak. :smt005

Just how far from Tucans were you? Try a mullet or a livey of some type.

Bigger rod and hold on they may drag you to Panama City at least you got the thrill.

I can assure you I was stone sober as I witnessed that beast jumping.
The look of panic and befuddlement on my brother in law's face said everything! :smt005
Except of course for my look of jealousy...Image

We were in the area in front of Gulf Foods... between it and Sharon's Cafe.

Tarpon is one of 3 fish left on my "Wanna catch list." Hope you get one so you can tell us about it.

That's awesome. I ran up on a tarpon in SJB a couple of years ago in my kayak, but I was too scared to give him a shot. I've yet to catch one. I went to Lanark a couple weeks ago, and we saw a bunch, but no hook ups. We're trying again tomorrow a.m. Those things are unreal.
