Picked up our limit of scallops this moring on the east flats. Engine started acting up. Ended up getting towed in by Tow Boat US....

I was the one on the end of the rope.

Left the flats behind Tow Boat US . . . :-D

We had a great time together as a family. All we used were masks & snorkels and the scallops were everywhere. Had a blast despite the dead bateries...

Dead batteries ain't that bad. Good job on the scallops.

I talked to another boater at Shields, and they said I was lucky because somebody had their boat sink out by the bird rack...

I heard that there were some other boating accidents on the 4th...

It was a little bumpy out there around the spoil islands/bird rack, and the number of boats in the river didn't help issues any. I saw more big boats running the river than I've seen since I started fishing St.Marks. The number of people out there in little jon boats and such didn't help matters either. I thought I was going to have to pull several people out of the river when a large boat wake nearly rolled their 12' fiberglass skiff over.

We found most of the Scallops just west of Grey Mare in 5-6' of water. Like Tom said, they were carpeting the bottom. I'd get 3-4 between each breath, it was incredible.

With the wind at 10-15 out of the east, we set three drifts using the anchor because the engine wouldn't' start. Drifted all the way west to Black Rock. Passed 50 boats on the way back to Shields. If I had to do it again, I'd do it because it was worth the time together with the family.
