Got invited to go bottom fishing with some friends; Tyler, Bruce and the Captain... Chris
This was my first time on Chris's boat - a 28' Mako center console.
One of the best bottom fishing boats I have ever been on- Tons of fishing room- lots of power and a sweet ride.

There was a nice cover of clouds all day so it wasn't too hot... and the fish bit!
We got in the fish all day fishing in about 80' of water.
Snapper...

Gags

and lots of Reds...
Image
We threw back at least 10 Red Grouper :smt010
In fact I got a lesson from Chris on venting Grouper...

Most of the big fish were caught on live pinfish- A couple of big ones on Whole Squid and Sardines.... Not much of a bite on LYs

Bruce Hooked into a nice king- +4 feet that broke the line at the boat.

Here are some of the fish - there were more Grouper & Snapper in another cooler...

Also got a box of Grunts, Jolthead Porgy and Sea Bass for Dad...

For reference here is the Jolthead

What a great day on the water- I could get used to that!

Great trip. I have caught those "Joltheads" offshore but didn't know what they were. How are they for tablefare, and is there any size or bag limits?
If we are not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?

Dad fried up some and they were good.
From the Florida Fishing Regs:
"For species that do not have an established bag limit, more than 100 pounds or 2 fish per harvester per day (whichever is greater), is considered commercial quantities."

I called to clarify and that means that as long as you keep less than 100LBS.
Or 2 fish if they are 50 lbs each--- you are OK.
