Iamonia 7-21

Post by Thomasville »

got out around 3 yesterday and trolled for specks. caught a few and then went back up into the pads for some bass. the biggest fish of the day was a catfish i caught while trolling for specks. with the breeze that was blowing it wasnt too hot so that + a couple of fish made it a nice afternoon on the water.

by the way i believe the ratio between water and gators has shifted in the gator's favor. had to walk the boat out a pretty good ways before we could even put the trolling motor down.

I havent been out in a couple of weeks. How is the landing? Or equally as important, how shallow is the bar in front of the landing?

I got out before daylight yesterday and was grateful to have my little jonboat. That limestone hump just in front of the boat ramp was maybe 8 inches under water. I had to wade to launch and load. There were several aluminum bass and crappie boats on Iamonia, but I saw no fiberglass boats.

Speaking of gators, there was a big gator about fifty feet in front of me right after daylight. Another gator back behind me started roaring. The gator in front of me raised his head and tail our of the water and roared back in a display that, I thought, was a mating season only display. It was pretty impressive to see at that close range.

I fished a SPRO frog in the pads for an hour or so after daylight with no action at all. I switched over to a white Zoom Horny Toad and caught 3 small fish before heading home to a cool adult beverage. Water temperature was actually down a couple of degrees from last weekend.

yea...its pretty dang shallow. went out there the day before too and had quite an adventure. took a bass tracker and trolling motor out there and find out that the battery is basically dead as we get blown out into the middle of the lake. bout that time the wind picks up and there were literally little whitecaps on the lake. we fished for a little while and caught a 2lb bass in the pads and then it was time to paddle back to the landing with one paddle. took us slightly under an hour.
