Atticus alone with his thoughts at St. Marks 7-28-07

Post by Atticus »

My plan was to fish by myself and have my train of thought only interrupted by seatrout and mouthfulls of Coors Light.

I was the 2nd boat out of the LH this morning and I fished in about 5-6' initially SE of Grey Mare and missed 3 monster strikes on topwater before ANOTHER nasty backlash :smt011 :smt011 :smt011 ended the fun with the TW bite and the sun came up.

Wind was out of the WSW and I ran out a little South of Peters rock for a drift in 10'... nothing but shorts, micro-bass and sharks.

Decided that if I wasn't catching I would at least not catch fish in a new area. I ran E towards the Aucilla river mouth and fished again in 11-8' with nothing to show for it but some ladyfish.

Ran N toward Cow Creek and found some pretty bottom but no fish.

Idled up to some creeks and caught dink trout in the ambush spots where I was looking for lazy reds. HUGE afternoon (3.8) tide today and the WSW wind was pushing water through the grass line pretty good.

The whole bay is covered in float grass too.

Headed for the hill after 7 hours of ladyfish, sharks, short trout, jacks and little seabass.

Nice to get on the pond and do some thinking by myself in the sun though. Never cracked a Coors until I got to the house. Just didn't feel like it for some reason.

Better than staying at home.
And it is always good fishing new water- If you keep catching in the old spots is hard to make yourself search for some new ones!

I like your style. I believe I'd a had to have 1 or 2 of those silver bullets though.

Back when the boat was running, I did it a few times, but without the silver bullet. I used to go out in the middle of winter and have the whole gulf to myself. I rarely if ever wrote about those journeys, it was the only way I could get any privacy...

Ain't it amazing what a little time to yourself will do for you. Glad you got your sanity back.
