FCKA July Tournament at Oyster Bay

Post by Talltails »

I pulled up this morning expecting to see a few regulars getting ready for the tournament this morning. What I did not expect to see was this:

I'm sure Suber will post all the stats for the day, but there had to be close to 20 Kayaks at the ramp this morning.
I guess this kayak fishing thing is starting to gain some momentum.
We all paddled out to kind of a bad tide this morning. It was dead low, but probably a +1.8. High tide was +3 so there was not a lot of water moving all morning.
Everyone seemed to catch at least a trout or something, however. My only action of the day was a 17" trout early and a 25" red a bit later.

The winning flounder catch was 17" by JT's nephew in a rental kayak. All in all it was great fishing with everone and I hope next months tournament is like this one 8)

Great turnout everyone and thanks to Kevins for providing a rod and reel combo to the winner.

Billy Taylor visiting from the Phillipines was the winner after renting a kayak from the Wilderness Way. Tallltails won the Calcutta with the biggest slot Redfish as pictured in his post.

By the way thats not Billy holding up that flounder. Its a reminder to me that when someone ask you wheres a good spot to fish and your competing against them, don't show them a good spot. No good deed goes unpunished. That fellow caught that 28" Flounder at a dock in Virginia last year. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut.
