bank fishing steinhatchee?

Post by janicelancaster »

Hello! We will be visiting Steinhatchee in the middle of October and have a charter booked. However we are crazy about fishing and so we would like to know if anyone has any information that might help us fishing off the marina piers when we're not out on the boat. Would we be wasting our time or what could we expect to catch...what bait, time of day, any information at all would be helpful! (We don't have to catch anything huge or edible, we just want to kill some time fishing the lazy way.) Thanks!

Bite your tongue! Fishing is never a waste of time! Don't know much about Steinhatchee but I would think you could catch something using squid or shrimp on a smallish hook.

I do know that some places down there rent Carolina skiffs. The one time I was there it seemed like everybody was fishing right at the mouth of the river within sight of the marina.

It greatly depends on the weather. If it gets cooler the fish will move in closer. The only place I can tell you about is farther north around the coast to Hagans cove. I would guess 10 miles. It's really pretty there and a creek runs close to the bank. lots of covered picnic tables and a large observation platform right on the edge of the water. I've fished there with my grandkids from the bank. Mostly lady fish, grunts, pin fish, and every now and then a Red. At Keaton Beach there is a long fishing pier.
