8/8 & 8/9 Oyster Bay & Lighthouse - late report

Post by cygraphics »

Last Wednesday I took my dad to Oyster Bay/Spring Creek area. It started off real slow but then we spotted some birds near an out bar and there must have been 100,000 minnows in the water they were feeding on. It seemed like every other cast we were catching something. Boated a nice flounder, probably a dozen trout (only 2-3 keeper size), blue fish, a nice spanish mac and a nice red. Once the bait was scattered we fished a little longer and got on a school of lady fish. They were fun to catch and my dad had a great time with them. I think we must have landed over 50 fish. Most of them were the lady fish, but it was a lot of fun. Everything was caught between 9:45-12:00 noon. The best thing was we only kept the flounder so there wasn't much cleaning when we got home.

Thursday we fished the Rock Garden and Stoney Bayou. Not as productive, but still had fun with the lady fish. We managed one 18" red and a few short trout.

My dad had a blast and it worth it just to see him catch fish. He grew up down here but all he knew was bass fishing. He now lives in Idaho and thought all trout were either brown or rainbowed and didn't live in salt water. Since we weren't keeping anything we didn't care what we could catch as long as it was something.
