Fly Casting Instruction

I took my first casting instruction last night from Master Instructor Jim Penrod of St. Joe Beach. Very informative two hours of casting instruction. He wanted to know what I anticipated in the class. I told him that I had been teaching myself and wanted an opinion on my form and techniques.

I was like a sponge trying to soak up the words of wisdom Jim was passing.

Diagnosis was that I tend to cut my back cast short some times, I follow through on the forward cast and shouldn't and I let my elbow ride up to high. Basically two minor problems and one that could be equated to style. He said I had good form and had done an excellent job of teaching myself.

What did I learn - Belgian cast, Proper roll cast (I didn't know that one), cross the body cast and multiple practicing techniques to cumbersome to type.

What did I accomplish - I was able to pick up 40-45 foot of line, haul twice with no line slip and shoot line to 70 foot...Jim could shoot 90 foot.

He can take two students at one time, if your interested in splitting a lesson

Lee Avirett is excellent. I bought my combo from him. Lifetime warranty and free instruction came with and I've had him give me a few refreshers over the years.
