Humminbird

Post by MrGreenJeans »

Was wondering if anyone here has one of the newer Humminbird side imaging units. If so, what type of experiences have you had with them. I have been looking at them online and the images coming off these units is increadible. It looks like they can realy help you find fish in ways that the others brands can't.

I really like the humminbird line and the Garmins. Stay away from lowrance if possible, they sold to a company out of Norway and the customer service sucks and most lowrance units are not even available right now. If I had to pick what unit to go with right now it would be a humminbird, that's my .02 :-D

I cannot agree with your opinion of their customer service

I bought a gps/sonar unit from tincan about 6 months ago. I dont know the age, but it was replaced by the 5 series at least a year ago. It started acting funny last week. I called lowrance thinking I was going to have to pay to have it repaired. The rep asked for my serial number. I sent it to her in an email and got a response in less than 2 hours saying they were replacing it at no cost. Way more than I expected.

On the other hand, LEI extras, the official storefront for lowrance accessories, is terrible, and should be avoided if possible.

The images on that side imaging hummingbird are amazing.

I've never been a Humminbird fan. Still not. But I looked at the side imaging equipment. Just couldn't see over $2000 worth.
What was I supposed to do today?

The 797 can be had for around $7 to 8 Hundred. It is my understanding that the company was bought a couple of years ago by Johnson Controls (maker of Minn Kota) and quality has increased. They by far offer the most bells and whistles for the money.

I've got a 787C and I really like it other than needing to find a better spot for my transducer.

humminbird sideimaging technology

Post by gibby987 »

My name is Mark Gibson. I am a Senior Brand Manager for Humminbird. I noticed the discussion about whether or not the side imaging technology is really as good as the images we show. I have been using the side imaging technology for over 3 years and 99% of the images you see from our website, ads etc are images that I took out on the water. These images aren't doctored/ modifed etc in any way. When you buy and use a side imaging unit you will see images just as clear and impressive as the ones you are seeing in ads etc. I could talk all day but then again I am biased. For anyone wanting independent verification of how good the side imaging units are I would recommend that you visit a website that I will list below. It is an indepent site that is a group of approx 1000 members that use side imaging today. This site is composed of users that are completely independent to Humminbird and have no obligations to Humminbird whatsoever. They will tell you the flat out truth about side imaging.

thanks
