Bucks in velvet (photos of deer)

Post by Big Bend Brian »

Took the family to fill our feeders last week and my god the deer were friendly!

Just kidding. A week ago we returned from visiting family in Wisconsin and along the way one of our stops included visiting the famous Wisconsin Deer Park (since 1957). I can remember visiting this place some 3 decades ago (jeesssshh)!

Here are a few photos I thought you might enjoy. As you would expect the velvet covered racks are soft on the exterior but quite solid beneath the velvet. The bucks didn’t like their velvet being touched but if you held out a cracker you could lightly handle the horns while they concentrated on getting the crackers. They are very dainty eaters. Careful with their feet and horns too.
Pretty cool.

Later that night we had pizza at a local pizzeria and come to find out those darn horns are contagious.
