A littlte help please.

Guys, let me first say I have really enjoyed reading the post for the last month. I am coming to Alligator Point for Labor Day and I ran across your website trying to learn a little more about the area. I will be bringing my boat (2070 Triton CC w/ 115 Optimax) and I was hoping that yall could give me a little info since this is the first time I will have boated in Saltwater. So If you don't mind, I'm just going to list a few questions that I have.
1) Can I launch from Alligator Point Marina?--Is there a better place close by?
2) What kind of wind- tide conditions should I be aware of? What do you consider rough water. In other words if the report calls for 15 mph winds and 3-4 ft seas is that rough. Just a general idea of what to look for and what to expect.
3) I have looked at your charts (big thanks), I would like to run as little as possible seeing as how I dont know the area. Are there any bad areas around Alli Point I should be aware of, especially areas not marked.
4) What are some good spots nearby that area. Dog Island Reef, Ocklocknee Shoals, Ock Bay? I like trout and reds but also flounders, span macks, seabass, and blues. I know this is 4-5 post in one, but I would really appreciate any info that you can provide

1. not sure....somebody on here will know.
2. 15 mph and 3-4's will be pretty rough in your boat. Alligator habour would be probably be O.K. depending on the wind direction. If it were me I'd trailer the boat to a more protected area if the wind forecast was that bad. For example certain parts of St. Marks, Econfina, and St. Joe Bay.
3. I don't know much about that area, but I think outside of the harbour there not much to hit except shallow water and sand.
4. All the areas you mentioned would be great areas to fish.

You can launch from Alligator Harbor Marina.
Follow the channel out and fish Dog Island Reef,weather permitting.
Watch your tides, low tide = low water.
Except for redfish you should be able to catch your list of species on DIR.
Follow the channel to Turkey Point area for reds and trout and mackeral.

Go west. Lots of trout, tarpon, gafftops, and sharks inside alligator harbor. There is a boat ramp just short of the marina that is open to the public but get there early for parking. You can also launch off HWY 98 into Alligator Harbor if the tide is at 2ft or better. Pretty shallow within 1/4 mile of land, so look at a Top Spot chart or Florida Sportsman chart that you can get at Advantage Marine on your way in on HWY 98 just south of the Crawfordville road.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. I will be down from Wed-Mon and will be out everyday weather permitting. Is that amount of time in the saltwater going to hurt my trolling motor. Its a new Motorguide Wireless regular not salt model.

If that is a bass boat with carpet salt water is very bad for the carpet also.

Bring lots of quarters wash the boat & trailer very well.

Make sure to grease your bearings and flush out the motor with fresh water.

Three to four feet will not be that close in unless the wind is much higher than 10 - 15mph.

Second all that and I gotta emphasize a caution on the weather. Expect any weather you see to have some circulation to it and likely to come back around. Also, it's a pretty long ways around the point so you gotta respect the time it takes to get around the channel marker -believe the bar is shallow.
Topwater early on DI Shoal. Second choice is medium size Gotchas

Redfish, trout, even caught triple tail in the harbor as well. If the weather is iffy the harbor is protected.

Got spooled by a big shark in there last time I went.

You could put in at Lanark Village Marina also, it is protected by the Lanark Reef if weather is bad. You have access to Dog Island, Dog Island Reef and Turkey Point Shoals from this marina. Its just west of Alligator Point.

we'll be down there this weekend and we use the "other" ramp. Concrete ramp w/o much current. Does get muddy at low tide.
You can also run to Turkey Point shoals. We've had great success there the past couple of weekends w/ good size trout and have seen numerous tarpon and their chasers. Fishing in out in front of the fus marine lab.
