Late Post - St. George Island 8/11 - 8/19

Post by PerryFisherMan »

Here’s a late post. Vacationed on the bay side of St. George Island 8/11-8/19 and enjoyed every minute of it. We took my 16’ skiff and a kayak. It took a while to figure out how to catch the trout/redfish but finally figured it out before the end of the week. Here’s the formula if someone goes there in the near future:
1. Only fish very early in the morning or very late in the day. Ignore the tides.
2. Fish only over grass or spotty grass. Since the water clarity was not too good, look at low tide to find these spots.
3. Since the water clarity was only 1-1.5 ft, so you have to fish with a Cajun Thunder to attract the fish and a gulp to show them where the hook is.
4. The fish were very, very lethargic. You had to fish the Cajun thunder like you would a plastic worm. We had to let the fish have the bait for ~3 seconds before we set the hook. We figured this out by accident. We thought the baitfish were screwing with our gulps – every time the bobber went down we tried to set the hook. But my son got tired of trying to set the hook with no results so he let the “pinfishâ€

Great job there PFM  Perry is a good location to be from. Lots of choices to head from there towards saltwater. Worked several years with a great Lady who lives in Eridu :D
