Post by sundown »

All Right, all that talk a month ago bout flyfishing and tying and swaps got my interest up..Since then I've made a small investment in tying material and a new rod.. so far what I've tied up will catch brim and pond bass...tried some clousers on some #2 hooks I had but they are bronze..Wonder what everybody else uses ?? Appreciate any input.......

:smt006 Yeah Boy, Sundown...the fly guys are still out here, tying flies and fishing what we tie as well as other flies given to us or bought for us to try! I'm experimenting with Gamakatsu SL45 Bone Fish hooks, size 4, 6, & 8's for smaller Clousers. I'm also using Cabela's Model #30, sizes 6 & 8 for Clousers; I like Tiemco's TMC 811S in sizes 2/0 - 4; Eagle Claw's I067, sizes 3/0-1/0; & Mustad's SL11-3L3H in sizes 3/0-4, SL11-3H in sizes 3/0-4, & SC15 in sizes 2/0-6! But, Clousers are not all the salty flies we like to tie - try Deceiver (minnows), Tarpon flies, Deer Hair sliders, Shrimp flies, Crab flies, Spoon flies, Pencil Poppers, etc.
Send me a pm :email: and I'll tell you about the FBBF in town!

Hooks

Post by TallyFly »

I use whatever I happen to have at the time. I have some Clousers tied on large and small hooks. From time to time the Fly Fishing club will have tying material, including hooks, in their auction at the meeting. We are working on getting started back with meetings soon and will make certain we have some hooks as well as finished flys. We also hope to have a casting clinic in the near future. You will have to join us. Look at http://www.fbbflyfishers.com.

In the meantime, take that fly rod with you to Carrabell and surprise yourself by catching some fish on those flys.

If you get 5-6 people from Bainbridge interested in a casting clinic, we will have one on a Saturday. We can even include some time for flytying.

Let me know.

 Gerald is messing around with our fishing time again! Yes, we are working on getting the fly club back up and running again on a tight schedule...soon I'll have a newsletter ready for posting. Hey Gerald, are we fishing on Saturday or fly casting and fly tying? A Win-Win situation!!!
