It was way past time.
My buddy that is always late which frustrates me was on time it about freaked me out.
Everything went great on the trip down and at the ramp.
We get out there and I am going to try for some Reds and head to my "spot".
Before I can get in place and get a cast off he gets a Trout on ice.
It is just as pretty as you please and while there was a swirl or two, my skitter walk was not the ticket.
He has put another on ice and I give in out comes the ct & gulp, down goes the ct.
Nice trout in the box, and the target species attacks but is a pup and lives to fight another day,
I tie a ct & g on his buddies rod and down goes his cork mr flattie is in the box.
My cork goes down whatta sow 24" now the comrade is looking for a cork.
His goes under and an epic battle ensues, this must be one big bad red.
I commence to pursue and position with the trolling motor.
Our bull red changes color before our eyes & is an 6 lb jack dang it.
The showers of bait are everywhere the sea is teaming with life big spanish are leaping through the air.
This is the most bait I have ever seen and at times it sounds like it is pouring rain.
You look and something is ripping through the school and they are jumping like crazy.
We head to 9' cause this is where everyone has been catching them and we do.
It is never fast but it is always steady, off comes the ct and bump goes the gulps.
Plenty of shorts and non targets with a few keepers and a parade of 4' sharks on cut & livies.
The wind splits and I start to feel the heat, I relent put up the top, I love / hate a Bimini top.
I ride till I see breeze and look for 9' with spotty bottom and away we go the same mixed bag starts all over again.
It was never awesome but it was always great.
I was fishing a stand up jig head and a 2 inch gulp shrimp on a new ultra light rod.
It took a while to get the hook set down but I ran circles around the others.
Hits ten to one, fish (trash included) 5 to one, meat in cooler three two one pretty cool stuff.
I would actually get as many as three chances on the trout hit miss hit miss all the way to the boat and finally nail him boat-side.
Nice weather, great tides, steady action, in the box eight trout two over twenty, five black sea bass,a flounder.
Pogies sharks lizards reds trout jacks pins pigfish cats.
Good barbecue at Kens in Madison and the boat did great and nothing broke.
Get this one Mr. Stiffs you at the pump split the fuel bill bought dinner and they helped wash the boat and unload the gear.
I kept thinking I'm just dreaming and I'll wake up soon but this morning there is a pack of fillets in the fridge and my rods are in the shower from where I washed them last night and my elbow hurts from fishing yesterday so it was real dang who would have guessed?
I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
